Display Screen Equipment
Display screen equipment (DSE)
Employers have a duty to manage risks associated with Display Screen Equipment (DSE) for workers who regularly use screens as a significant part of their normal work. This can include desktop computers, laptops and other display screen equipment used in offices, at home or while working remotely. HSE guidance generally treats workers using display equipment daily for continuous periods of an hour or more as users.
Poor workstation setup or prolonged use can contribute to back, neck, shoulder and upper-limb discomfort, as well as fatigue and eye strain. Employers should assess workstations, reduce identified risks, provide suitable information and training, and arrange eye and eyesight tests when requested by eligible users.
Wooltown Safety Services can carry out assessments for office-based, home, hybrid and mobile workers, helping identify issues with workstation layout, posture, equipment and working arrangements.
Assessments can cover:
- Workstation and seating setup
- Screens, keyboards and input devices
- Posture and working position
- Lighting and glare
- Breaks and changes of activity
- Laptop and mobile working
- Home and hybrid working arrangements
- Recommendations for improvements or additional equipment
Following the assessment, practical recommendations can be provided to help improve comfort, reduce risk and support compliance with the Display Screen Equipment Regulations.
Contact Wooltown Safety Services to discuss your DSE assessment requirements.
