Face Fit Testing

Wooltown Safety Services offer comprehensive Face Fit Testing services either at your office, or on-site at your location by a Competent Chartered Safety Consultant with 14 years face fit testing experience.

Before conducting the face fits, your teams will participate in a toolbox talk. This session will provide them with an overview of the importance of safeguarding themselves from hazardous dusts and particles, the legal obligation for undergoing the tests, and a detailed explanation of the testing procedure, along with expectations upon successful completion.

Following the testing, we provide expert advice on the suitability of the face mask and issue a certificate based on the test results.

Types of Face Fit Testing offered:

Qualitative Testing for filtering face-pieces (FFPs, disposable masks) and half masks.

Qualitative Face Fit Testing assesses the seal quality of disposable half-masks and can also be applied to fit tests for reusable half mask respirators. It relies on the wearer’s sense of taste to evaluate the mask’s effectiveness.

The Requirement:

The Requirement:

Dust masks are commonly used across various industries, notably construction and manufacturing. To ensure Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) suitability, it must be tailored to the job, environment, anticipated airborne contaminant exposure level, and wearer.

Due to variations in individuals’ shapes and sizes, one specific type or size of RPE facepiece is unlikely to fit everyone. Fit testing helps ensure that the selected equipment is suitable for the wearer.

The Legal Perspective:

The Legal Perspective:

The Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs) supporting various regulations such as the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 (CLAW), the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR), and the Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 mandate, taking all reasonable steps to prevent exposure to hazardous substances. Where prevention is not feasible, exposure should be minimized to the lowest practicable level.
